This video was filmed in 2022. In June 2024, the wording of the Child Safety Standards was updated and may be different to what is shown in this video. The content about performing a Self-Assessment is still relevant.
At the time of filming, completing a Self-Assessment and Child Safety Standards Action Plan was an annual requirement, but it is now required every three years.
If they haven’t already done so late in 2024, all LCA congregations should now be undertaking a self-assessment and preparing their round 2 Child Safety Standards Action Plan.

The Child Safety Self-Assessment
All congregations that have children participating in regular worship, prayer or children's ministry are expected to complete the Self-Assessment (and Child Safety Standards Action Plan) every three years, under the LCA's mandatory child safety responsibilities.
A complete overview of the Child Safety Self-Assessment and Child Safety Standards Action Plan is available in the below guidelines. Congregational chairs and other leaders are encouraged to read this document.
Completing the Child Safety Self-Assessment
The Child Safety Self-Assessment is to be entered into the online portal tool by assessors once they have finished talking to people and gathering all their information.
The Self-Assessment does not have to be completed in one sitting. You can save and return to your work at any time. Once completed, it is automatically delivered to your chairperson. It also contains a summary PDF of all your findings, which you can print.
Child Safety Standards Learning Hub Resource
This resource is also available on the LCANZ Learning Hub (click here for access information). It is designed as an information, learning and resource hub for congregation members who are undertaking the child safety self-assessment and planning process. It is delivered in a simple and easy-to-use style. It even has a quick quiz at the end to make sure you have covered all the bases. It also contains links to numerous resources outside the LCANZ. Those with LCA email addresses can access the Learning Hub using the button on the LCA Portal.
